Celebrating my 4th Blogiversary with You!

4 Years! WoW!

I had a Wonderful Year. I'm still Pressing Forward!

Thank You all so Much for keeping me uplifted and encouraged.

So much has happened! I don't even know where to start.

My Rootstech Journey!

What a learning experience! All that information in one place for 5 days went way to fast!

My Induction Ceremony into the DAR was wonderful. All the work was well worth it. My highlight of the year. July 5th, 2016.

I got to spend time in Pa and visit Dauphin County Historical Society and met Mr. Frew and Mr. Calobe Jackson, Jr.

Visiting the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, Pa.

I attended MAAGI this year and had a Wonderful time learning at the Institute. I also got to visit the Allen County Public Library all this was on my Bucket List.

I do know that I will continue to have growth. I'm challenging myself to writing more intricate pieces on research.

I want to write more on how I have solved so many challenges in Genealogy with my personal research.

I appreciate all of you that come by and visit and make comments.

Thank You! to All for Celebrating
4 Years! with My True Roots!

Best Regards!

How did I miss the 1 Slave in My Patriots Household ? Could it be True?

I have so much research to do. I spent 3 years searching and documenting my Patriot! Somehow this got overlooked. No one said a Word. How did I miss this as much as I have studied and researched him.

There are way over 9,000 Ancestry Trees that have him researched and close to as many who have this Document attached to Nicholaus Barrick and no one is talking about it or has any notes regarding this.

Now I'm on a Quest to find out if this is True or False and who this Person is!

I have to look for all the Court Records and Newspaper articles on this Lawsuit. This road was named after my Family.

Feagin Mill Road has a long history from Georgia to Alabama.

I also visited SocietyPerry Historical Society and Houston Home Journal. They still have the original presses.

Like my Cousin James

Aunt Ossie mentioned in this letter is Granddaddy Ike's Daughter. James's mother is Granddaddy Ike's Daughter as well. James is his grandson.

This Painting was also used in our

Many Thanks to Cousin James and Mr. Richardson for this awesome piece of art he did on on our Ancestral hometown.

I'm always so grateful. I just wanted you to see a glimpse into why I have so much love for what I do.

National Museum of African American History & Culture - No Denial: The Truth Is on Display.

The Day has come...it has finally Come!

My Truth. My History. My People. My Life. My Journey is on Display for the World to see.

My Truth. My History. My People. My Life.  My Journey is Your TRUTH. Your HISTORY. Your PEOPLE. Your JOURNEY.

These United States of America!

This is ALL of our DAY!

100 years later.

The World is Watching US!

This Little Light, We are gonna Let it Shine. Let it Shine. Let it Shine!

Time Brings about a Change.

This will be a Journey to the New World we need to Pursue.

A Time where everyone can see - feel - hear - and touch our History & Culture.

A Journey into time to present day what our Life's Journey has been in this Country.

When no book I could find as a child could teach me. Or show me who I was. I was lucky if People of Color got a mention in my History books.

I only learned in my Home. I only seen 2 Black Teachers in all my Education in the same school District from Kindergarten to High School. It took till I was an adult to comprehend and learn on my own the History of my People

My True Roots
My True Roots Memories

My People were brought here to America as Slaves. Brought to the State of Alabama from the Carolinas. In 1865, My 4th Great Grandparents William & Minta Ivey were married legally after being together for 15 years and 6 children later. They had children that were born on the soil in Alabama. 8 Generations later that I have documented and researched. Not counting the many that are lost through Slavery.

My folks were a Mighty People of resilience. Now the World gets to see it in all it's Glory

Now you can get taught the true meaning of our Contributions and how this Country was built by People of Color and how we have true meaning as Contributors to a Free Society.

There will be no more excuses. You can see it for your own eyes. If you didn't know. Now you KNOW!

I'm so Proud of my History & Culture. This is a personal Investment for future Generations. They have a place to commune and celebrate their Heritage.

This will be part of the Healing & Reconciliation this Country so desperately needs.

I can't even fully express my Pride & Joy! I can't wait to Visit this Summer.

I can't wait to experience the Museum with my Children's Children's Children's.

Your History has A Place. A Home....

September 24th, 2016. President Barack H. Obama will Dedicate the Opening Ceremonies to the National Museum of African American History & Culture to the World.

Our History & Culture will Speak To this Country's Truth through this Museum. It will SPEAK from it's Walls about our Truths with a walk on a Journey that can UNITE us All.

Playing with Ancestry Shared DNA Match Tool 🌿

Playing with Ancestry Shared DNA Match Tool  ðŸŒ¿

Today. I was looking at some of my Message Boards that I have SAVED from the Past. Just to make sure I was getting notified on new Posts or Comments and Responses from old Threads.

Last week Ancestry rolled out a new feature to some 10% of it's customers. Not sure when the rest will receive the rollout.

The feature lets you integrate within the rest of Ancestry about your DNA to keep you from going back and forth so much to the Homepage. You will start to see it in other segments of Ancestry as they go along.

I just happened to notice it in Message Boards or did I not?

Where else if you are Beta testing the New Feature have you seen it within Ancestry's Walls?

This is how it's supposed to be used when I use it for the other Kit I manage, my Cousin James.

There are several people included in this List. One is my 3rd Cousin. Her Grandmother and my Grandfather are Siblings. But we all share Granddaddy Ike Ivery in different Grandparent degrees.

Me & Cousin James

Then when I click on James's Name. The NEW feature shows me and James SHARE. It does it with the rest of my KNOWN Cousins as well.

As I was going to my Message Board. Certain names were highlighted. I'm assuming they are Members and or DNA Tested. I'm not sure of the clickable highlighted names purpose.

When I click on the Name of the Person in Message Boards it lets me know if this Person is on my DNA List or not

That's how I ran into all this today. Not sure if it's a Glitch? Or what they call integrated into the rest of the Website.

These are the two types of examples I ran into so far.

Clickable Person on Message Boards

A Match on DNA Homepage. I don't match. I do match a KIT they Manage.

The above image is of a person on my Match List from the DNA Homepage. I click on their Username it lets me know I don't match them but a Kit they manage.

Don't know of the inaccuracies or if it's wonky? Or is it just me messing around and trying to make something out of nothing? I had fun for a hour to see consistencies and to see if any of those Queries were any kin to me on the same board by DNA.

- Me -

When I went to a Board where I know I replied and clicked my name. It shows I'm not on my own DNA list.

Otherwise it was fun Playing around with Ancestry Shared DNA Tool  ðŸŒ¿ today.

I'm trying to get more information, so please be patient with me. I'll have more information when I find out.

If you can leave me a NoTe or Comment to give me suggestions or an explanation, that would be AWESOME!

 ðŸŒ¿

NoTe To MySeLf:

I tried to look for my 4th Cousin Linda on the Message Boards to see if she would be on the "Shared Match" New Tool. Her Board name is different from her DNA Results name she uses. So that may be a issue at a later time. We know she matches me and she is on my List through the homepage of DNA Results. This still has potential and I'm gonna keep coming back to it and trying different methods. I hope it's fine tuned as well and not just a Glitch. I would love to see my DNA Matches in other places around Ancestry besides the DNA Homepage.

Best Regards, True-  ðŸŒ¿

A Daughter of the American Revolution

My Patriot

Johann Nicholas Barrick

Johann Nicholas Barrick "My Patriot" was born on August 2, 1761 in Greenwich, Pennsylvania. He married Anna Maria Lambert ( Lambertie) variations in 1783. They had four children in 23 years. He died on July 20, 1844 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 82 years.

As you can see, my Patriot is from Pennsylvania. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania so it was only natural for me to make my final decision to choose a Chapter in Pennsylvania.  Mother and Daughter - We joined together!

5th Great Grandfather Nicholas Barrick

Grandfather Nicholas served with the 6th Battalion of Berks County, Pa Militia. He was mustered in for the Revolutionary War. He received a pension from 1837- until his death in 1844. When the Revolutionary War was over, he was deeded land from his Father Henry who we see has having the last name of Berg. He shared this land with his brother John in Pennsylvania. The family ended up moving to Queen Annes County in Maryland about 1790 where Nicholas worked as a bricklayer on the new courthouse.

It took me four years to order and research, to get my Application for the DAR completed. It was well worth the Fight! It was quite the experience with this type of lineage research gaining and ordering sources and proving connections generation to generation and how it's suppose to be done correctly. It took every ounce of my belief and others that this could be possible.

I want to Thank some very patient Genealogy Friends along the way who encouraged me and had my back along the way. Even when I was pouting and throwing my hands up at a few turns. They kept me encouraged.

There was even a "Group" made for me to go back and forth on theories and have a workstation, just for me to concentrate solely on my application and get moral support.

There was a Mondays with Myrt! program I had attended  from Dear Myrtle. All this came about because I yelled out of place in our Chat Room and my hand went up like a school girl who couldn't wait to be answered from the teacher! We were having a discussion and somehow DAR came up.  Cousin Russ and Dear Myrtle said "Who was that?" and her light bulb went off!
That is how the ball got rolling!  With her weekly Wacky Wednesday she took time and patience with Cousin Russ to have a Hangout designed around me and my Patriot. She gathered all the resources she had available and got me  surrounded with a Group of Ladies that went well beyond the "Call of Duty", like Soldiers do. They had a plan.

I was introduced to Marian Kowalski and Sheri B. Fenley along with Carmen Cross and Brenda Hare.  Their work was impeccable.

They had all my Documents lined up and advised me on, what do you do next?  They were my 2nd pair of eyes with glasses. For one, I had approached my application in the wrong way. DAR research is different from tree building.

You see where I'm going with this?

Collaboration at it's best! The Genealogy Community came out for one of it's own.

By the time Dear Myrtle and her Community got through with me I had a completed DAR worksheet with all that I had researched and saw where my 3 weakest links where to work on so I could continue to the home stretch.

In February, 2016 after Rootstech I was able to Submit my Application to my Registrar.

On April 25th, 2016. The Letter I was waiting on came with the news I needed more Documentation. Hard lessons to learn and more research.

I am now as of July 5th, 2016 a Member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

My Official DAR Certificate

Open Letter

Dear Pat; and Cousin Russ & Sheri Dahling,

Without you all keeping me uplifted, encouraged and beating the drum on this Application. I wouldn't of got through this all. I wanted you to know I appreciate all the work and effort you put into this Special Project just for me and my Mom. All your hard work didn't go unnoticed. It's not unbelievable how far and wide you put your arms around me and got me through this Journey. All the support from the Genealogy Community as well. I wanted to thank you with much gratitude and I know my Patriot Grandpa Nicholas is saying Thank You for helping their Grand baby out as well. I Salute you. I Thank you. It's with Gratitude I'm writing to you, from my Heart that I'll always remember and this will be my words for all to see for future Generations. Thank You for being on this Journey with me.

Thank You and Well Done!

True!
The Great Great Great Great Great Granddaughter of Patriot Johann Nicholas Barrick.

Why am I watching ROOTS?

For

Lewis • Ivery • Miles • Daniel •

It All starts with a Name

Memorial Day. Monday. May 30th, 2016
9pm Eastern : Tonight

Reimagined  Roots  is being aired.

I watched the Original Roots in 1977 at age 9. That year I began to understand Who I was. That I had a History.  As I cowered silently laying on the floor by my Mother's favorite chair and Daddy on the left end of the couch. I was in tears, hoping no one would see me.
I was fearful, angry and full of pride from one moment to the next in my heart and soul.

I'm glad my Parents were there to help protect me from all my feelings that were stirred up in my little 9 year old self.  As I intently listened through scenes to their Oral History about what they knew about Slavery. They were the grandchildren of Slaves.

Roots has been the catalyst on why I started listening to the Elders talk since 1977. I self taught myself the techniques for Oral History Interviews. This is why I am where I am today, writing for you.

I remember having to go back to school the next day. I saw myself differently and the world around me from that point on.

My Ancestors from the Continent of Africa had prevailed with dignity. For our Heritage. Why I stand today. On the mighty shoulders of Elders

The Lewis Surname.

 That name is My Rock.

My Sword and my Shield

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

 --Jeremiah 1:5

Why am I watching Roots?

I will Watch with a new pair of eyes. As a Woman. Not the 9 year old girl. Observe. Be Concerned. Learn. Pass the knowledge on. HONOR....and everything else my mind can't comprehend to speak and write. For all the atrocities perpetrated against a People.

I can go back and tell True at 9. All is well. Go unto the World with your head held high. Your Ancestors are with you every step of the way.

Why am I watching Roots?

For the years 1513-2016

IN HONOR OF JAMES LEWIS. He was drafted for WW2 to fight for this Country but had no rights. To prove he was worthy of fighting for this Country and he should be equal in all ways according to the Constitution.  For The 11 Mother's  of Ike Ivery.

WE DON'T KNOW. Who came through the Middle Passage to a unknown Country. Her bleeding picking cotton hands.

For the 1.8 Million who died on these Slave Ships

For all the countless names we will never know that were denied their Heritage. For their UnSung Lives. That's why I am watching Roots.

I'M WATCHING FOR EVERY IMAGINABLE REASONS FOR MY ANCESTORS

1619, Mathias De Sousa. Benjamin Banneker. Phyllis Wheatley. Nat Turner and the Slave Revolt. Denmark Vessey. The Amistad. Harriet Tubman. Stagecoach Mary Fields. 44th President of the United States. Barack H. Obama. 2009-2017.

Why am I watching Roots?

All for the 44th President Barack Hussein Obama.

Why I have such a source of Pride for President Obama?
He knows his European Roots and his African roots. Pres. Obama has what every African American today wants. Their Village, language, and Tribe. Their Traditions and Heritage.
For the many African Americans that come to you in their quest on their DNA Journey. I ask that you help them piece together with kindness to help them with their lost heritage that was stolen from them.

I have a Responsibility to MY Family and my Descendants, the Truth about the Lineage from whom we descend. The Truth about their History.  Our Legacy.

I'm watching so my Fellow Researchers, Genealogists, Family Historians can know what I have to go through on a daily basis when scouring through record after record just to find one more date to add to my Ancestors Life Line. What we call the Dash.

Why am I watching Roots?

To keep myself Inspired. To know who I AM! To teach my Family. Who What Why and Where we come from! So there is no doubt where our Greatness comes from.

Why am I watching Roots?

For the Sacrifices. For the Blood. For the Sweat. For the Tears that were shed for my LIFE in my DNA

Why am I watching Roots?

To give God the Glory! To be Thankful and Mindful of all that my Ancestors have gone through with the grace of God to keep living one more day in this LIFE, so that in 2016,

 We ARE, who we BE!

How can you can help the Descendants of Slaves find their Family? Millions of Names have been Lost through time. It's time to help.  What can you do to Contribute to History?

This Link will show you how Family Search is working with the History Channel for Roots.

Or

Slave Name Roll Project by My Blog Sister Schalene. Her project has been dear to my heart and all her Contributor's that put their family records online so Descendants of Slaves can find them one day.

These are two ways you can Contribute.

#ReadingForRoots

Let's keep the Conversation going.

Why are you watching Roots ?

Note To Myself:  Why do we as Individuals keep asking others and ourselves, why we do have to WATCH one more Slave Movie? I am watching Roots because a whole Generation was taught by the last Generation we don't need another Slave movie. They left a stain on a whole Generation that this is too painful. It's not important. It doesn't matter.  We don't need to be reminded. We need to move on.

It's our Responsibility to People of African Descent to not let them go unnoticed and push their lives to the side.  Their Lives are Worth more than Gold. They built this Country, we so freely walk on every day.

I say to you, if you don't know where we come from? How can you navigate through life ignoring the past to go into the Future? This is all of Our History as a Country. We can't pick and choose. We have to make the right choice and honor those that came before us. We are all in this Together.

This is my Answer

This is why I am watching Roots
